James Richard Morton was born on July 31, 1937, to James Arthur Morton and Ludie Kimble of Pittsburg, PA. In 1954, James Richard Morton joined the United States Army at Fort Bragg, NC. During his tour of duty in the United States Army, James deployed to Vietnam, Panama, and Germany on various tours of duty throughout his military and Army career. James was noted during his service as a phenomenal PSG, receiving numerous medals and awards for his outstanding service while serving in the United States Army. During his tenure in the United States Army James proudly served as a dedicated service member in the following units; 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, 11th Airborne Division, and
1st Cavalry Division.
Notably, in 1999 James met the love of his life Bessie Morton who later became his wife in 2006. In addition to his extraordinary military service career, in 2004, James joined Atlanta, Georgia's Robert F. Greene Chapter of the 555th Parachute Infantry Association known as the "Triple Nickles". James proudly served as the Membership Chairman, past President of the Atlanta, Georgia's Robert F. Greene Chapter of the 555th Parachute Infantry Association, and Special Advisor to the National President of the 555th Parachute Infantry Association. Most notably, James Richard Morton was recognized and awarded various military honors, notably being a recipient of the following awards; Combat Infantryman's Badge, Bronze Star with one oak leaf cluster (1 OLC), Air Medal, Commendation Medal, National Defense with 1 OLC, master parachutist badge, Air Assault and Ranger Tab.
In 2018, James and his wife, Bessie Morton relocated to Cary, NC. Honorably, in his dedicated service to our country, James Richard Morton rendered his last jump on Sunday, October 23, 2022. James leaves to cherish his memory: his beloved wife of 23 years, Bessie Morton; Two brothers, Ralph Morton and Carl Morton of Pittsburg, PA; One Sister, Joanne Golthy of Pittsburg, PA; Three Sons, Rodney Morton of Atlanta, GA; Anthony Morton of Florida, and Ricky Morton of Carrollton, GA; Two Daughters, Felica of Sarasota, FL and Pamela of Burlington, NC; Three Nephews, Owen Golthy, Clinton Golthy, and Raphee Golthy of Pittsburg, PA; Six Stepchildren, Camiel, Tina, and Micheal of Pittsburg, PA and Calvin Reid of Douglasville, GA, Rastarmon Jones of Union City, GA and Geneva Jones of Marrietta, GA and a host of other loved ones and dedicated friends.
