Hattie McNeill

Hattie Lee Deberry McNeill departed this life on May 24, 2024, at home. Hattie was born in South Carolina on July 1, 1945, to the late Edmond Deberry Sr. and Roberta Henderson Deberry Ocheltree. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles McNeill, and Three Children: Gerald Steven McNeill, Charles McNeill, Jr., and Faye Crutcher. She had four sisters: Gertrude Alford, Mary Ann Bernard, Rosa Lee Lloyd, and Fannie Reed. She had one brother, Norman Deberry.

            She dedicated her life to Christ early on and was a faithful Shady Grove Freewill Baptist Church member in Spring Lake, NC, until her health failed. She served as Sunday School Secretary, Church Clerk, Choir Member, and on the Pastor's Aide Committee. She was willing to work in the Church wherever there was a need. Her favorite hymns were "There is a Leak in this Old Building." While Hattie received her education in the Harnett County Public School System and held various jobs throughout her life, her true passion was yard sales. She found great joy in both attending and hosting these events, which were a testament to her love for community and social interaction.

            Hattie's memory is cherished by her surviving family, including her son Rodney McNeill, who resides at their home. She also leaves behind foster children Darwin Neal and Erica Kay Neal, as well as grandchildren Barry McNeill, Brian McNeill, and Gerlisha McNeill. Her surviving siblings include Lucy Merritt(Bob) of Garner, NC, Edmond Deberry, Jr (Lessie) of Roanoke Rapids,NC, and Larry Ocheltree (Katrina) of Sanford, NC. Several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
