On May 31, 1931, in Fayetteville, NC, Eugene Carter Jr came into this world to proud parents Eugene and Anna Louise Carter. Having spent his youth here, he was a very proud graduate and active alum of E.E. Smith Sr. High School, Class of 1949. After graduation, he took a classes at Fayetteville State College then soon joined the Army in 1951. During his 20 plus years of military service, his tours of duty took him to Vietnam, South Korea, and Europe. He received several military awards and decorations. According to him, time flew by, and in 1972, he retired from service. Eugene (affectionately known as Nimh, Uncle Junior, Granddaddy) was a known prayer warrior. The time was always right for praying. Notably, served the Lord as a lifetime member and diligent worker at St. Luke A.M.E. Church.
In his later years, he had a dedicated set of friends: Geraldine Stone, Gloria Kirk, Jimmy Gause, Kenneth Foy, Michael Nichols, and Reggie Ingram. He was preceded in death by his parents, the love of his life and wife, Alberta, a brother (Robert Earl), two sisters (Louise Hunter and Letha Thomas), and a stepdaughter (Diane DeBose). Eugene Carter Jr. leaves to cherish his memory; one sister Teresa, stepdaughter Sheila, three grandchildren; Gretchen and Anyonga, Alphonzo, nieces; Carolyn, Vendetta, Juanita, Janis, his favorite niece and advocate Sabrina, one nephew Michael, and a host of other relatives and friends.
